Sandy Village’  SP,  Sri Lanka.

From Sin: væli/weli,  ‘sand(y)’; and gama/gamuwa, ‘village’.

Weligama is a coastal village famous for its long, sandy bay, lace-making, coir rope and stilt fishing.

It also boasts the 38m Kushtaraja gala statue who some say is Avalokitesvara, the Bodhisattva, and others that he was an Indian prince who introduced the coconut to Sri Lanka.
