‘Calf Grove’  [Vatsagulma, Vachchoma] -City/District, Maharashtra

From Skt: vatsa, ‘calf’, ‘yearling’; Skt: gulma ‘clump or cluster of trees’, ‘grove’.

Vashima is derived from Vachchhoma, the Prakrit corruption of Vatsagulma [Vatsagulma VachchomaVashima].

Washim was once the capital of the Vatsagulma branch of Vakataka dynasty [3rd-6thC] founded by Sarvasena in the 4thC. The Dynasty were  patrons of the Ajanta Caves.
