Vashima is derived from Vachchhoma, the Prakrit corruption of Vatsagulma [Vatsagulma →Vachchoma→Vashima].
Washim was once the capital of the Vatsagulma branch of Vakataka dynasty [3rd-6thC] founded by Sarvasena in the 4thC. The Dynasty were patrons of the Ajanta Caves.
