From Mar: vhāḷa, ‘rivulet’, ‘brook’, ‘stream’; Skt/Mar: palli→poli/poi, ‘village’, ‘hamlet’.
Some suggest the stream is on the other side [Mar: pailā, ‘other, opposite, farther side or bank’] rather than this side!
