‘Land of the Holy Foot’   Town, Kerala

From Mal: tiru, ‘holy’, ‘auspicious’;  kāl, ‘leg’, ‘foot’; and kara, ‘land’, ‘place’, ‘shore’.

Thrikkakara Temple is dedicated to Vamana, the dwarf incarnation of Vishnu. The myth told here (and at the Onam festival) is the one where Vamana steps on Mahabali’s head and pushes it down to the underworld.
