From Kon: taḷeñ, ‘small tank’, ‘lake’; and Skt: grāmaMar/Kon: gaon/gaun, ‘village’.

Under the Portuguese Taleigão was the ‘paddy granary’ of Goa with field after field under rice cultivation.
