Sri Ganganagar is a planned city named after Shri Ganga Singh Bahadur (1880–1943), Maharaja of Bikaner. The Maharaja also built the Ganga Canal which brought the waters of the River Sutlej into the district and laid the foundations for its future as the ‘food basket of Rajasthan’.
