सीतामढ़ी sītāmaṛhī
‘Sita’s Cottage’ City/District, Bihar
From Sita, wife of Rama, and Pkt/Bih: maḍha/maṛhī, ‘hut’, ‘cottage’.
According to Hindu mythology this was the birthplace of Sita who, it is said, was born in an earthenware pot while her father was ploughing the fields. There is a temple dedicated to her nearby.
