‘Satna (River)’ City/District, Madhya Pradesh (MP)
Fromr the Satna or Sutna river.
Legends say the river got its name from the name of and ancient rishi, Sutikshna whose ashram is at its source.
It’s more likely that its name comes from Hin: sāt, ‘seven’; and nahr/nahara, ‘stream’.
Satna District is part of the region of Bagelkhand, a large part of which was ruled by the kingdom, and later princely state, of Rewa.
Satna is rich in limestone and dolomite. There are 10 cement factories in the region producing neally one-tenth of India’s cement and a similar proportion of its cement exports.
