‘City of Sathyakanarayana’ [Sadhayapuri] Town, Assam
This is an abbreviation of Sadhyaka-narayana -pur, the city of 14thC King Sathyakanarayana.
Sadiya was the Chutia Kingdom’s third capital. It was founded in the 13thC and lasted through until the 16thC.
There are many sites across the whole region dating from this period: Bhismaknagar fort, Rukmininagar, Tamreswari temple, Tezu fort, Pratima garh, and Bura-buri temple.
The Bhupen Hazarika Setu or Dhola–Sadiya Bridge, is the longest ‘over water’ bridge in India. It is just over 9km in length and joins the states of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, and has been built to withstand the weight of military vehicles in the event of defence manoeuvres.
