Hin: राजसमन्द rājasamand

‘Raj Lake’ [Rajsamudra]  – City/District, Rajasthan

From: Skt/Hin: samudra/samand(ar), ‘sea’, ‘ocean’.

Rajsamand is named after an artificial lake created here in the 17th century by Rana Raj Singh of Mewar. The lake, at the foot of the Aravalli Hills, is about 3 km wide, 7 km long  and 18m deep. Kings used to weigh themselves here and present the local Brahmins with the weight in gold.

This is a mineral-rich region with ample supplies of marble, granite, zinc, silver, and manganese.
