Tam: புத்தூர் puttūr

‘New Town’  NP,  Sri Lanka

From Tam: puththu/puttu, ‘new’; and ur, ‘town, city’.

In 1976 the fledgling Tamil Tigers robbed a bank here in brazen cinematic style and got away with LKR700,000 in cash and jewellery.

Puttur boasts the Nailavarai Bottomless Well. It probably does have a bottom but it never runs out of water.
