From Mal: peru, ‘great’, ‘large’; tallu, ‘beating’, ‘fighting’ (boxing/wrestling); and maṇ(ṇa), ‘soil’, ‘earth’, ‘ground’.
Perintalmanna was famous for its Mamankam post-harvest festivals which featured martial art contests, sporting events and artistic performances. The sporting events were organized around the Thirumandhamkunnu temple at Angadipuram.
