Sin: පානදුර pānadura– Tam: பாணந்துறை pāṇantuṟai

From Sin: pāṇa/pasana, ‘stone, rock’ (used only as a place-names prefix); and Sin/Tam: tara/tura/turai, ‘seaport, harbour’.

Panadura was the site for the 1873 Debate between Buddhists and Christians which were generally perceived to have been won by the Buddhists and encouraged various streams of Buddhist revivalism and modernisation.
