I don’t normally go for these British-era acronyms as derivations – most cities have a history that long pre-dates the Raj. But in this case the cantonment area of Neemuch was a new town designed and planned by the British as a regional military HQ. Besides, -ach doesn’t constitute a normal generic place name element, even if Hin: neem is an entirely possible prefix and specific place name element.
This cantonment played a significant role in the 1857 Rebellion and also the most southerly point of the disturbances. Its bungalow area and grounds are now part of the central training and recruitment centre of the Central Reserve Police Force.
