‘Ironwood Forest Plain’ CP, Sri Lanka
From Sin: na (gaha), ‘ironwood tree’ [Mesua ferrea]; val/vala, ‘forest, wood, jungle’; and pitiya, ‘ground, land, field, plain’.
It is called the ironwood tree because of its weighty timber.
In Sri Lanka it is believed to be the tree under which four previous incarnations of the Buddha achieved Enlightenment.
