Morena District has, possibly, the largest population of peacocks in India: an estimated 74,000 peacocks in 2011 [Video: Peacocks at Bateshwar Temples, Morena].
The 10,000 sq m Bateshwar temple complex, a collection of around 200 sandstone temples and ruins, is 30km southeast of Morena. The temples are dedicated to the three primary deities of Hinduism: Shiva, Vishnu and Shakti, and were built in the the 8th-10th centuries.
