Mal: മഞ്ചേരി manjeri

‘Walled Settlement’  Town, Kerala

From Mal: maṇ‍, ‘mud-wall’, ‘wall’, ‘stone-wall’; and  c(h)ēri ‘colony’, ‘settlement’.

Manjeri is famous for its Stone Age sites including rock-cut caves, menhirs and dolmens.

At one point it was the military HQ for Tipu Sultan.
