Sin: මහව mahava – Tam: மாகோ mākō
‘Great Lake’ NWP, Sri Lanka
From: Sin: maha, ‘large, great’; and wewa, ‘lake, pond, large tank’.
Maho is a British corruption of Mahawa which in turn is a truncated form of Mahawewa; there is a sister Mahawewa in Puttalam District.
Maho has two mighty tanks nearby: Mediya Wewa (5.5km long) and Abakola Wewa (8 km long).
