Tam: குச்சவெளி kuccaveḷi –  Sin: කුච්චවේලි kuccavēli

‘Kusha Grassland’  EP,  Sri Lanka

From Tam: kuchcha [Skt: kusa], ‘kusha grass’ [Desmostachya bipinnata]; and Tam: veḷi , ‘plain’, ‘open land’.

This coarse grass is also known as halfa grass, big cordgrass, and salt reed-grass.

As seat cushion material kusha grass has many spiritual connections: it was specifically recommended by Lord Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita as the ideal seat for meditation; and the Buddha used it as a meditation seat for his enlightenment.
