From Skt: kuvaḷa(ya), ‘(blue) waterlily’ [Kan: kōvaḷ, kōhaḷ, kōḷe].
Kolaramma has been the resident goddess of Kolara for a thousand years with her own Chola-style temple decked with granite statues and carvings. The Kolar Gold Fields, mines which operated for over a hundred years are in fact 30km away near Robertsonpete.
