Tam: கல்குடா kalkuṭā – Sin කල්කුඪා kalkuḍhā
‘Rock Point’ EP, Sri Lanka
From Tam: kal, ‘stone, rock, boulder’; and munai, ‘point, cape, promontory’.
Kalmunai is the seventh largest city in Sri Lanka and the largest in the Eastern Province.
When the Portuguese drove Muslims out of Colombo the King of Kandy settled them here and in neighbouring Kattankudy – both are Muslim majority cities.
