Lachhuar, neat Jamui, is an important Jain pilgrimage centre, home to a historic Mahavir temple and dharamshala. Local tradition links it to the birth of Mahavira, though most traditions place his birthplace at Kundagrama near Vaishali, with Jamui remembered instead as the site of his enlightenment.
Today, Jamui is both a pilgrimage site and a key administrative centre of southern Bihar, with forests that still recall its name.
