‘Himmat Singh’s City’  [Ahmednagar]  -City, Capital (Sabarkantha District), Gujarat

From Himmat Singh and Hin/Skt: nagar, ‘city’.

Ahmed Shah I of the Gujarat Sultanate founded a city here in 1426 and called it Ahmednagar The Rao dynasty of Idar State took control of the city in the 18thC.

In 1912 Sir Daulat Singh, the ruling Maharaja of Idar State named the town after his son, Prince Himmat Singh, who later became the last Maharaja of Idar State (1931-48).
