Mal: ഹരിപ്പാട് harippāṭ

‘Green Ricefields’   Town, Kerala. 

From Mal: hari ‘green’; and  pāṭam/pāḍam/pāṭu ‘(range of) ricefields’, ‘rice-land’.

Haripad is nicknamed ‘Town of Temples’. The two most famous ones are the  Subrahmanya Swamy temple and Mannarasala Temple (see Mannarsala).

The 3-day Payippadu Vallam Kali snake boat races [Mal:  vaḷḷam, ‘canoe’, ‘boat made of one trunk’; and kaḷi, ‘play’, ‘game’] are held annually on Payippadu Lake [Mal:  payi, ‘green’] near Haripad (see Aranmula).
