‘Temple Town’ City, Andhra Pradesh

From Tel: guḍi, ‘temple’; and Dra: wada/vada, ‘district’, ‘town’, ‘quarter’.

Archaeological excavations here have revealed important  Buddhist and Jain monuments, stupas and temples.

The modern town has eight Hindu temples, a Jain pilgrimage site and an agrcultural economy which includes rice mills and tractor trailer manufacturing.
