From Gond and Skt: वन vana, ‘forest’

The historical region also included parts of what are now Chhattisgarh (Chh)Maharashtra (Mah), and Andhra Pradesh (AP).

It is named after the Gond tribe which has dominated the area for centuries.

Gond kingdoms ruled across Gondwana between the 14th and the 18th centuries,

The name was used by  Austrian scientist Eduard Suess to denote a geological supercontinent that included South America, Africa, Antarctica, Australia, Zealandia, Arabia, and the Indian Subcontinent.
