‘Snow Temple’  -City/District/Capital, Sikkim

From Tib: gangs, ‘snow’; Sik: tok, ‘temple’.

Sikkim was annexed by India in 1976.

Gangtok (at an altitude of 1,650 m) is a Buddhist pilgrimage site and a centre for organised treks through the Himalayas.

Kanchenjunga (8,856m), the world’s third highest mountain, is visible from the city.
