From Sin: ella, ‘waterfall, rapids’.

The Ravana Falls are 25m high and  behind them is the Ravana Ella cave; legend, based on the Ramayana epic, tells of how Ravana, the demon, abducted Sita and kept her in this cave.

Ella is in a spectacular location 1,041m above sea level surrounded by mountain peaks, forests, and tea plantations.

From Ella Gap there are superb view of the Southern lowlands.

The Nine Arches Bridge a.k.a ‘Bridge in the Sky’ (91.44m long and 24.38m high) was an extraordinary colonial project but designed and built by Sri Lankans: P. K. Appuhami,was the local builder and D. J. Wimalasurendra was the designer and operations manager.
