Guj: દાહોદ dāhōda

‘Two Borders’   -City/District, Gujarat

From Hin: do, ‘two’; and Hin/Guj: hada, ‘border’.

Dahod has borders with both Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. There is also a suggestion that the name is linked to Saint Dadhichi who sacrificed himself so that the Devas could make the vajra, a weapon combining the indestructibility of a diamond and the power of a thunderbolt, from his bones. Local legend says he once meditated here on the banks of Dudhimati river.
