‘Churuman’s City’  – City/District, Rajasthan

King Churaman, a Rajput, founded Chura  in the Jangladesh region  [Skt: jangala, ‘desert’; Skt: deśa, ‘country’] in 1620. Thereafter ii was ruled by Rathore Rajputs and then became part of Bikaner state in 1871. Churu is famous for its havelis (traditional mansions decorated with murals): the six-storied Surana Haveli has more than 1,000 doors.

Churu is also called the ‘Gateway to the Thar Desert’.
