‘Chhatrasal’s Town’  City/District, Madhya Pradesh (MP)

From (Maharaja) Chhatrasal; and Skt: pur, ‘(fortified) town’, ‘city’.

The town takes its name from Maharaja Chhatrasal of Panna (1671-1731).he name Chhatarpur is said to have been derived from Chhatar Sál , who is said not to have founded , but to have first made the place one of importance ; before his time it is said to have been a small village [Cunningham, Reports, Vol 7,p28].

This agricultural town is surrounded by hills and temples: there are four Hanuman temples situated on hills around the town.
