From Bhil tribe and Hin: vāṛā, ‘abode’, ‘settlement’, ‘colony’.

Bhil are tribal people found in western and central India. According to legend Bhils from this region were allies of Maharan Pratap against Emperor Akbar in the 16thC, and it was named in their honour.

Textiles are the mainstay of the Bhilwara economy with over 850 factories and workshops in the town. Bhilwara is nicknamed the ‘Manchester of Rajasthan’.
