‘Twelve Regions’ – Taluk/Sub-district, Goa
From Hin/Mar: bārā, ‘twelve’; and Hin/Skt: desh/deśa, ‘country’, ‘region’.
The name refers to the immigration of Saraswat Brahmins (cf. the thirty settlements of Tiswadi. The twelve regions, corresponding to land allocated to each clan, are: Aldona, Anjuna, Assagao, Candolim, Moira, Nachinola, Olaulim, Pomburpa, Saligao, Sangolda, Seula and Siolim.
The Netflix ghost story/thriller, Typewriter, was filmed in Bardez and features Vagator, Revora, CHOGM Road, and the Mapusa Market. The action takes place in a fictional Bardez Villa in a fictional Goan town called Bardez.
Bardez is a tehsil/taluk or sub-district of North Goa. Mapusa is its capital or HQ.
