Tam: அரக்கோணம்  arakkōṇam

‘Six Angles’   Town, suburb (Chennai), Tamil Nadu

Tam: āṟu/aṟumai, ‘six’; kōṇam, ‘angle’, ‘corner’.

Arakkonam, it is said, sits on an important junction linking six key towns: Kanchipuram, Thakkolam, Manavur, Thiruvalangadu, Tiruttani, Ponnai and Sholinghur. 

It is also an important railway junction ultimately linking Chennai to Bangalore and Mumbai to Chennai. Its railway station is one of the oldest in India and the town has one of the biggest workshops on the Southern Railway.
